This comic is complete! In a 1930s Illinois, we follow the tale of Daniel Groth, a down-on-his-luck but good spirited gravedigger who simply disappears one day without a trace, leaving behind his best and only friend, Christine, of whom he was secretly in love with. He returns months later to Christine's house...very much changed. Now a horrifying creature of the night, Daniel's true personality is fading away, leaving only his unquenchable desire for blood. VibeCheckAug 07, 2026I've read several vampire webcomics up to this point, and enjoyed plenty of them, but most tended to be supernatural comedies, action series, and slice of life series. Thus, Danny quickly stuck out to me for being a true to form horror comic. It's a damn effective one at that. There are some eerie visuals, intense gore, and startling situations. The sparse use of color enhances them, with the most important scenes being done in full color. The horror truly derives from Christine slowly come to the realization that Daniel is too far gone. By the end, it's devastating. Daniel is an excellent tragic villain. Even though he did repeatedly fumble before he turned, he was a sweet guy and I wanted to see him and Chrissy have a happy ending. There are hints of his old personality that show up, making me root for things to somehow return to the way they once were, but that can never be a reality. While I enjoyed him a lot, I found Christine to be the true heart of the comic. She's an observant and proactive main character whose responses to Daniel's increasingly suspicious behavior is relatable and reasonable. She never fully trusts him once he returns to her life, but this is still the man she cherishes and it's hard to let that go. I didn't expect to enjoy this one as much as I did, but I definitely recommend it if you want a good scare.
