Curse of the Eel

I’ve got nothing but praise for this one. The cast is expertly written and deeper than meets the eye. Everyone has believable flaws that make each one interesting. I love the duo of the resentful goth Connie and her eldritch eel friend who’s way more chill than one would expect. Eel has a great heart and I like how he genuinely wants to help Connie solve the problems in her life without much supernatural BS, even though she’s disappointed with his entire M.O. Connie’s bullies have a surprising amount of depth and development too. Frank’s sheer commitment to do what’s right after his friends went too far was hella respectable. The art is excellent. Characters have evocative expressions, the paneling and framing help set the mood of each page, and the body horror goes so hard. Not a page is wasted. At every moment it’s building up characters’ relationships and arcs, and adding more to the overarching mystery. It all pays off in an absolutely nuts Lovecraftian save the world plot against an incel with the powers of an outer god. It’s just so hecking fun.
