When animals considered to be "prey" by the apex predators of the world begin to band together for safety, where does it leave those caught in between? Namely, a pair of pine martens, carnivores and flesh-eaters themselves, but small enough to be considered food for the bears, wolves and gluttons of the forest and field. They're on a journey to seek sanctuary with the rabbits, squirrels and other prey that have gathered to Oren--but they don't know if welcome or condemnation will meet them.

VibeCheckAug 09, 2026Dang, I love this one! The art is Disney-level, with exceptional expressions and backgrounds. The writing is super enticing. I love how the animals treat things like fire as other living beings that require sustenance, and calling things like spears teeth. The story has me engrossed in this world where anthro mammals behave like animals. It brings up a lot of interesting moral dilemmas centering around the protag, who has a really great character arc. I'm surprised that my favorite character is Hemlock, since I don't usually gravitate towards characters that are distrustful to a hostile degree, but knowing how dangerous this world is and the shit she went through in order to reach this point in her life is so devastating. I did start to lose a little steam in the second volume since it can be a little hard to keep track of all the wolves, but I still found it great. Swift is a great addition, it's cool seeing how the predators operate, and the villainous wolf pack adds some fun tension. Overall, really great series. Looking forward to the next volume!
