VibeCheckAug 17, 2026I was originally pretty hyped to read this since it was written by the artist of Axe Cop, but learning about all the aggrevating shit Ethan has been up to these past few years really took a toll on my interest. Even so, I was curious to see his writing chops compared to his younger brother's. Now that I'm caught up, it's alright. It has a good sense of escalation, though it plays itself more seriously than I expected. Sure it has crazy mutant bear animal combinations running about and some cartoonish characters, but the tone isn't too different from a lotta typical zombie apocalypse series. It has tension, character arcs, and way more graphic than I expected. I wasn't blown away by the cast so it did make it hard to get too attached when bears start picking them off. Sometimes Ethan's right wing does show, mostly with how the hippies/nature activists are depicted, but it didn't impact my experience too much. The humor wasn't really effective. Sometimes the series would dip into black and white during really inopportune moments like a character death, but the art is generally really professional otherwise. It's a fine read, but even with how absurd the concept is, I feel like it could've been pushed even further.
