Sad W: The Stories of a Depressed Gamer

Weirdly enough, even though I'm a huge fan of video games, I've hardly read any gamer webcomics. It's mainly since a lot of them look pretty samey and usually follow the same formula. If I'm gonna read it, it's gotta hook me in with something interesting like VG Cats did all those years ago. So yeah, a gamer webcomic where every character is an anthropomorphic letter is definitely something that's gonna catch my eye—for better or worse. No, it doesn't explain why living letters exist in the same world as humans and how they can hold stuff without hands. No, it doesn't answer how it's possible Aquaman and Wonder Woman's W logo fucked. The worldbuilding is fucking weird, especially how every character is known by an adjective that could change over the course of their life, like how Wishful W became Sad W. Oddly enough there's hardly any jokes involving the letters themselves. The concept is absurd and the art style isn't that pleasant (I find the recurring usage of video game screenshots pretty lazy), but overall I found it very middling. It balances the generic gamer commentaries and jokes with observing Sad W's life. The humor is very tame all things considered, I only got a chuckle out of the British joke. The slice of life aspect surprisingly interested me more than the gamer comic parts. Sad W isn't fully a butt monkey with universal bad luck, he's able to make new friends and have fun in life. It's nothing I consider that interesting, but I wouldn't call it outright terrible either. It does look pretty cursed, but it could've been way worse.
