VibeCheckAug 17, 2026The premise is pretty cool. Not often you see a fabled sea monster in the role of a superhero protag. It's like if Ruby Gillman was heavily inspired by Greek mythology, and I love both of those! Too bad this one just really didn't work for me. The intro was pretty confusing and didn't help get me engaged with the characters or conflict. The progression really just feels like "and then this happened" without feeling natural. Like, the reveal of her family history, followed by the introduction of her newfound kid siblings that get into cartoony fights, followed by a random training sequence just felt haphazard. The villains also had the potential to be memorable since it's basically an evil Greek pantheon, but they're all just bland. Heracles was especially disappointing since he just felt evil for the sake of it. While the inclusion of Chinese, Egyptian, and Belgian mythologies was interesting, they didn't feel that integrated well. It has a lot of noticeable grammar issues, half the series is just training, and the series got cancelled on a cliffhanger. The art is competent, but it's that generic action printed comic style I don't find much intrigue in. Having a soundtrack on every page timed to certain events was neat at first…… until that one royalty free horror song you've DEFINITELY heard before came up and took my immersion out. Pretty sure I recognized some Kevin MacLeod songs in other pages.
